We are so glad you decided to view this page. We hope you will tell all your bird owning friends of this potential danger.:-)

The cold weather has arrived. Although the links I have provided do warn of other products containing Polytetrafloroethylene I know there are those that may not go there. Please read below. Remember your birds can take the cold. Just keep them out of drafts. They will also need more food for fuel to keep them warm. Better a cold bird than a dead one. Years ago the burner went dead and could not be fixed for three months. It went down to 40 degrees at night but warmed up some during the day. I even showered the birds everyday. The only bird I didn't keep there was a bald headed Grey Cheek as I felt he would lose too much body heat with no head feathers. Read literature and ask the manufacturer's Chief Chemist about the chemicals used in any new appliance that uses heat or is even coated with a plastic (polymer) finish to protect it from corrosion in storage. I removed the brand info as it matters not. Unless someone knows of one they have researched and is safe.

Thank You:-)

Subject: Fw: Heater Tragedy

I received a very distressing call this morning about 7:30 AM. A friend of mine "Katie" here in Houma called me crying her eyes out. It took a few minutes to calm her down to find out what was the matter. She said when she went to bed last night it was cool in the room in her house where she kept her pet parrots (7) so she opened the 2 new heaters she purchased at Lowes and turned them on. The parrots were all acting their normal selves. This morning she got up to find ALL of them were dead! Can you put yourself in her place and imagine what she felt? Everytime I think of it I cry, like right now. The new heaters must have had something in them toxic they were giving out. Since it is getting cold, I know some of you (including myself) will be using heaters. Until this is resolved I thought you all should know the name and brand so you will be aware. She is having a nycropcy done on one of them to be sure. In the meantime be careful.

I cannot thank her enough for calling me as I have one which I haven't used yet this year. It WAS for the bird house. I get chills to think what could have happened. Will keep you all informed as to the results. This is just to be on the safeside so no one uses them until we know for sure.
